I've had the good fortune to work with more than a thousand GMAT and Executive Assessment students who have gone on to attend the world's top business schools. As the co-author and managing editor of Veritas Prep's GMAT curriculum, I also had the chance to shape lessons and strategies used by thousands of additional students.
When I myself attended UCLA Anderson to pursue a corporate career, I kept one foot in the testing world, continuing to mentor students whenever I could.
The Realization
After business school, I pursued exciting post-MBA career opportunities, leading consulting projects ranging from M&A strategy to media innovation and managing over $300M in technology relationships for the country's largest independent biotech firm.
But the more students I worked with, the more clearly I saw the same problem.
Too many talented MBA applicants were getting stuck on the GMAT, not because they lacked intelligence, discipline, or ambition, but because they lacked the right kind of guidance. They were trying to piece together their prep from classroom-style books, generic online courses, and endless practice questions, without anyone showing them how the test actually works.
I had seen what was possible when students had real mentorship. A stronger GMAT or Executive Assessment score could open the door to better MBA programs, stronger career opportunities, and a completely different professional path. But high-quality prep was often expensive, overwhelming, or built for students who already knew how to study for the exam.
I wanted to change that.
